Cosmology in a New Light
Recent experimental data of distant supernovae suggests that our knowledge of the universe and its dynamics needs to be fundamentally re-evaluated. Evidence seems to be accumulating, that the expansion of the universe is in fact accelerating; [Per97-99], [Ri98]. This strong evidence
, if verified, would lead to profound alterations in the way we think of the universe and old problems in cosmology would re-appear in a new and interesting light. This could mark the start of a paradigm shift in physics at the beginning of the 21
century.
It may come as an even greater surprise that the notion of an accelerated expansion and all its consequences are not new or revolutionary from a theoretical point of view.
